CNY Filipino Martial Arts Academy is the only school dedicated to promoting the Filipino Martial Arts in Central New York.
Our focus is to train individuals from all walks of life in a highly effective system known for its practical approach to self-defense, regardless of size, age, or physical condition. We also focus on the tools to help one succeed in all aspects of life. Mind, body, spirit, confidence, awareness, and fitness are all parts of making you a better YOU.
Courses Offered:

Kali – Filipino Martial Arts: Kali is an ancient martial art of the Philippines dating back to the ninth century. Kali is one of the most comprehensive martial art systems available. Encompassing an entire spectrum of weaponry, Kali also features sophisticated “empty hands” techniques, kicks, knees, sweeps, throws, and joint locking techniques. This highly efficient, combat proven art emphasizes an understanding of motion, body angulization, timing, and footwork. This art is practiced my many masters well into their 70’s and 80’s, yet it is still highly effective.

Panantukan – Filipino Boxing: Panantukan – also known as ‘Dirty Boxing” is the empty handed boxing/component of Filipino Martial Arts. This is a street oriented fighting system. Many of the techniques and movements are derived from Kali. The art primarily consists of upper-body striking techniques such as punches, elbows, head-butts, shoulder strikes, groin strikes, and gouging. Pananjakman which is considered the kicking aspect/supplement of the art is also included which consists of low-line kicks, knee strikes, stomps, and counters. Panantukan prefers to use parries, deflection, footwork, and angulization in order to minimize contact with the opponent. This is done from the perspective of not knowing if the ‘opponent’ has some type of instrument to implement in their attack.

Muhammad’s Boxing And Martial Arts – King George

Yusuf A Muhammad
King George, VA | Waldorf, MD
540-775-7555 | Email | Website

Yusuf “Joe” Muhammad is former police officer and Chief of Police with 26+ years in law enforcement. His most noted achievement in his law enforcement career was the capture of Willie Horton. This was a worldwide noted case that was said to have turned the tide of the 1988 U.S. Presidential election.
In addition, Yusuf is a highly decorated law enforcement officer who had represented his agency on ABC’s 20/20, Fox5 News and several local newspapers.
Yusuf started his martial arts practice in 1971 in the art of Tae Kwon Do; however, he considers the start of his serious study when he began studying under Chuck Jeffreys in 1977. Master Jeffreys taught an eclectic art called Liberated Martial Arts (LMA). This art has a basis founded in the northern shaolin art of T’ien Shan P’ai Kung Fu; however, the art pulls from a variety of other arts to make it feasible for modern combat . Since then Yusuf has practiced in a variety of other fighting systems such as Western Boxing and Brazilian Jui Jitsu. In addition to being an accomplished instructor in his primary systems of Liberated Martial Arts (LMA) and T’ien Shan P’ai Kung Fu, Yusuf holds a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.Yusuf takes pride in referring to himself as a “perpetual student”. As such, Yusuf has been certified as an Apprentice Instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto in the Filipino Martial Arts and in Lee Jun Fan Gung Fu/ Jeet Kune Do. As an Apprentice Instructor, Yusuf gains a great deal of knowledge while at the same time sharing that knowledge with his students. As a former chief defensive tactics instructor for the Prince George’s County Police Department, Yusuf has trained numerous law enforcement officers. Pulling from his numerous years of law enforcement experience, executive protection training, personal protection training and defensive tactics Yusuf operates Muhammad’s Boxing and Martial Arts in King George, Virginia and a satellite school located in Waldorf, Maryland.
Muhammad’s Boxing and Martial Arts stresses the importance of being diverse in combat skills. Every range must be trained and perfected. From the kicking range, to the punching and trapping ranges, to the standing and ground grappling ranges.
As a community service, Muhammad’s Boxing and Martial Arts trains for free hundreds of women and children in personal safety. Also, Yusuf has a periodic column that appears in the local newspaper aimed at personal safety.
