The Laramie Project – 2013

Washington, D.C. – Ford’s Theatre Director Paul R. Tetreault announced the Theatre’s 2013-2014 season will open with a new production of The Laramie Project, 15 years after the killing of Wyoming college student Matthew Shepard. The play is presented as the cornerstone production for the Ford’s Theatre Society’s Lincoln Legacy Project, a multi-year effort dedicated to sparking dialogue in the nation’s capital around issues of social injustice and the ideals of equality for which Abraham Lincoln stood. Judy Shepard, Co-Founder and President of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, will serve as the featured guest during a post-show discussion during the series of free special programs and events that will be offered in connection with the play in September/October 2013.

Bando Legends Request

Please consider this request for biographical information regarding current or former Bando persons (Teachers-Students-Colleagues) that You feel have made significant contributions to the development/evolution/growth of Thaing/Bando. Unfortunately, some of these individuals are no longer with us, but we can continue their contributions/Legacy’s by encouraging those closest to them to share/write about their experiences /impressions.

It would be a genuinely appropriate gesture/tribute to recognize these people, prior to their expirations (demise), so that they would have the opportunity to realize/know that their contributions/efforts have been truly valued and appreciated.

So please; if You know, or know of such a person or people who have had a positive influence on Bando and/or Bando practitioners; take some time to put down and share your feelings/experiences.

Thank You.

Respectfully Yours,

Jon Collins

Leo Giron Drive

As many of us in the Filipino American community know, Leo Giron..
…was handpicked by General Douglas MacArthur to parachute behind enemy lines in the Philippines during World War II.
…was instrumental in providing tactical intelligence behind enemy lines that allowed for the US Armed Forces to defeat Japanese forces in the Philippines during World War II.
…received a Bronze Star for service to the United States of America.
…returned to his community of Stockton, California.
…was one of few Escrima masters who brought the martial art to America, allowing others to learn and appreciate the art.
…created Bahala Na Martial Arts in Stockton which has spread throughout America and internationally.

Of course, that’s just a few of his accomplishments.

Time is of the essence. The length of the letter is not as important as the amount of support the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors need to see. Even just a letter that says “I support the naming of Leo Giron Dr.” would be sufficient. Please have them send and fax their short letter to:
